Maintenance

When winter snows come, the tools we use to remove snow and ice from our sidewalks and driveways impacts the condition of nearby plants and how much salt flows into street drains and rivers.

Preventing ice is the best way to reduce the impact of salt:
  • Shovel sidewalks as soon as possible after a snowfall.
  • Deposit snow in a location where it won't cause future problems during melting/refreezing.
  • Remove slush and soft snow on warm days.
  • Fix rain gutter leaks and direct downspouts away from sidewalks and driveways.
This 15 minute video shows how to prepare, and how to do the best job.
